Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi had a lot to answer to after the end of ‘The Force Awakens’, which left the fans unsure where Luke Skywalker had been, who Rey was, how Rey is effected by the Force.
Johnson knew that every Star Wars fan is filled with these questions. The strategy that he used was very simple – identifying what was great about the previous Star Wars movies and crafting the new edition accordingly. This strategy makes the movie special and enjoyable. The Last Jedi can be best enjoyed if you go into watching it without any plot details so let me try my best not to reveal any spoilers.
The running time of the movie is two and a half hours but there isn’t much fuss in it. Mark Hamill is extraordinary in his performance as Luke Skywalker. The scenes where Luke and Rey interact with each other are gripping, and the scenes between her and Kylo Ren are even more interesting and fascinating. The other characters—Leia played by Carrie Fisher, Poe Dameron by Adam Driver—also add essence to the story. The only downside to the movie was Rose Tico’s arc with Finn as it felt a bit detached.
It takes a lot of thought to make a sci fi movie believable for the audience. Johnson handled it cleverly and made the audience hope he directs the next film as well. The movie runs fast and dark but is also darker than the other episodes.
The Last Jedi is everything a Star Wars movie should be, and fans will love it without a doubt. The technical components like the background score, editing, cinematography was done seamlessly as well.
Lastly, if you doubt Adam Driver as one of the best contemporary actors, his performance in the movie should sway you. May the force be with you as you watch the movie in theater.
